ipad mail would not try additional smtp servers

Using iPad with latest ios.

Mail would not try additional smtp servers.

I have two outgoing servers configured, but mail tries only primary if both are enabled. Only if I "turn off" primary, Mail will use additional server.

I want it to try additional when primary is unreacheable without any changes to mail settings.

How do I achieve that?

iPad 2, iOS 9.3.4

How do you know it would not try additional SMTP when primary is unavailable/unreachable? I didn't see that test in your post.

One way to test it is to block outgoing access to the primary SMTP on your wireless router. See if it rolls over to additional SMTP automatically.

I have blocked access at SMTP server.
